It probably does not make much of a difference as in our home the rule is to wash the dishes BEFORE you put them in the dishwasher!

I have never understood cleaning dishes and then putting them in the dishwasher. On the other hand, my dishwasher is about done-for with all the things that have been put in there, and maybe it would help. With just you and the Boss (wife), I can't imagine a dishwasher to be even necessary.
I never understood the wash before washing either. Now I do rinse them off, just to get off some of the excess, but not completely wash them. Unless we're talking about the dishwasher from our first house... it didn't work worth a darned, so I did wash the dishes, then just used the dishwasher as rinse-cycle & dryer afterwards.
